4 month update

Can you believe that Zane is 4 months old already?
He had his 4 month wellness visit this week and here are the results:

18lbs 6.5ozs
27 inches tall
and a head that is in the 100th percentile!
(all his other measurements are from 95th to 98th percentile)

And...
He didn't cry when he got his shot. I was very impressed.

Thursday was Zane's 2 month checkup. He is doing really well. He is smiles and talks a lot! It is so exciting to watch him develop.

Current stats:

14.5 lbs and 24.25 inches

I went back to work this week. Thankfully I didn't have much anxiety. Gramma is watching him while I work so I don't have to worry about him. I know he is in good hands. Kyli loves having Zane there, it helps to get her out of bed in the morning. :) One of her New Year's resoutions was to see him everyday. So far she is on track!

Yesterday was the one month doctor visit. You won't believe how Zane is growing!

12lbs 3oz
23.25inches long

I guess with as much as he is eating I shouldn't be suprised :) If he keeps this up he will outgrow both mom and dad by grade school.

I can't believe it has been a month already. I have barely stopped and never thought I would get so little sleep! Glenn is suffering from sleep loss a bit more than me because he has difficulty sleeping suring the day. I, on the other hand, can sleep almost anywhere any time, a talent I had before Zane but have improved on since. :)

ZANE ALEXANDER

Zane was born on Feb. 17 at 9:37pm, 8 lbs & 15.6 oz. Both Christine and Zane (and Glenn) are doing great! After going in Monday morning to be induced and only dialating to 3cm, they decided to do a c-section. I GUESS HE DID NOT WANT TO COME OUT!! He is doing good and seems to be a pretty content baby so far!! For the Chavis' this is Aunt Carrie!! More pictures and updates to come!! :)

It's almost time

I went to the doctor on Thursday and have made very little progress. I reach 42 weeks on Monday and the doctor tells me that the risks to the baby start to increase after this long. She has asked me to come in Monday morning to start the process of inducing. It will take quite a while so we should have our little Zane by Tuesday or Wednesday.
The first day should be fairly boring. They will start by prepping my cervix, 12 to 24 hours. When I am dilated to 3-4 cm, they will start pitocin if my body has not taken over the process. I am hoping that my body will take over at some point...please God!
If we experience complications or if my body does anything crazy, the doctor will want to go for a c-section. I am praying that we don't end up having to go under the knife.

Sorry i haven't posted anything in the last couple days. I know everyone is waiting as impatiently as Glenn and I!
Things are progressing slowly but still no sight of Zane. We will keep you posted and promise to post pictures ASAP.

No baby yet

Monday was officially 40 weeks and Zane is still nice and snuggly in my belly. I went to the doctor yesterday. She said that everything looks good, my fluids have not started decreasing and the placenta looks good. All signs point to everything is great! So, Zane is safe and comfortable.
That means that we just have to exercise patience and trust that God created pregnancy in a way that works! Please keep Glenn and me in your prayers that we will be able to stay focused, patient and know that God is in control.
We will keep you updated on the progress.

Today is the official due day. No baby Zane yet.
He is definetely moving down but no real contractions.
Everything is ready. Now we just wait and try to be patient.

Almost there

Only 4 days until my due date. It seems like the last 9 months just flew by. But on the other hand, the last 4 weeks have not.
I got a review from the doc today and she says that I am showing mild signs of progress. My cervix is softening but no dialation yet. From my understanding, that is not abnormal for first time mothers, neither is it abnormal for mothers in my family. So...I am trying the little tricks that the doc suggested in an attempt to 'help' nature along. We'll see if it works.
I would be oh-so-happy if this lasted only through the weekend.
We'll see.....

Can you believe that there are only 3 weeks left until my due date?

I am really feeling it these days. My hips and pelvic bones have really started aching these days and I am moving around quite slowly. After all the work we did this weekend I am actually feeling quite good.

Here is a belly closeup to prove to Debborah Jane that I really am pregnant and that it is impairing my movement these days. She doesn't seem to think that I have much of a belly.

My due date is only 5 weeks from today. I can't believe it. The last 8 months have gone by so quickly. Wow.

I am finally feeling really pregnant and getting really large! My stamina is decreasing with each day. I find myself requiring rest with the smallest of tasks. I am running out of clothes, especally shirts long enough to cover my belly. :) The past 3 mornings I woke with leg cramps and today I walked around like a lame old woman, all day. It was not so pleasant.
Next week I start my weekly appointments with the doc. That makes it feel even closer to the end!

Last week at my appointment we again got good reviews. The baby is moving around even more than ever. I am fairly confident that he has turned in preparation for delivery since I have had increased bladder pressure over the last week. His heartbeat is holding steady at 144bpm. My blood pressure and everything is still normal. The doc says that she has no worries about any health issues for us. YEAH! I am sure that all will go wonderfully.

Tomorrow we have our second meeting with a doula. Both Glenn and I are excited about our decision to use a doula. We both feel a lot of stress relief just to know that we will have someone with us who has a lot of experience with birth.

Monthly update

Hey there everyone. I hope Thanksgiving left you extremely satisfied!

Things are going really well for us. The baby is growing nicely. I can't believe how fast the time is going. I am in week 32 which means that I only have 9 weeks left until my delivery date....Feb 2, 2009. That is just crazy. I am sure that the next few weeks will fly by since we will be busy with holiday activities.

...and I just keep getting bigger and bigger :)

Glenn and I have completed 5 out of our 6 Childbirth Education classes. We have learned so much. I am sure that it will really us to relax throughout the labor and birthing process. We actually have an idea of what to expect. One thing that we learned is that the window for a normal term pregnancy is between 36 to 42 weeks. That puts us anywhere from Jan 5 to Feb 23. Wow! That is a large window of opportunity. I guess we should go ahead and get that nursery ready.

October 28 doctor visit

Our checkup went well again this month! Yeah!
The baby's heartbeat was 144 bpm, so he is holding steady. We have to start going to see the doc every 2 weeks now. That is going to put a cramp in my schedule but I'm sure I'll adjust. :)
They did the glucose test at this appointment and the results came back good. I am slightly anemic so I have added a bit of iron to my daily nutrition supplements but other than that we passed with flying colors.

22 weeks under my belt, literally!
We got good reviews at the doctor this month again! The baby's heartbeat is nice and strong, 148 bpm. Everything was very uneventful, which is good!
I measured my belly the other day and am growing slowly but surely. From the 19th to the 30th I grew 1.5" That seems like a lot to me but I am guessing that as we move through the next 4 months it will become that much more dramatic!

Friday, September 5 - Our second ultrasound

Much anticipation came before this day. Ashely had the day marked on her calendar (even though she still forgot when the day actually came!) and we were all waiting impatiently to hear the results.

Well, it's a boy!

My family and I all thought that we were getting a girl. Glenn was even looking forward to having a girl. It took me the entire weekend to adjust to the idea of a boy. I am starting to get excited. I started buying some boy stuff which seems to help. We will have a great time with this little guy, I am sure.

September doctor's visit

The doc gave the old thumbs up at my appointment today. I got to hear the baby's heartbeat today. (Last month the doppler device wasn't working.) They look for a heartbeat between 120 and 180 bpm. Our baby registered at 146bpm. Not bad! Everything is looking good.

We are scheduled for our second ultrasound on Friday morning. I will post more ultrasound pictures by this weekend so be sure to check back. Since I have reached 'old' childbearing years, we will get the level 2 ultrasound. Apparently it is about an hour long and they measure every nook and cranny of the baby. We will also find out the sex of the baby. (My family all predicts a girl!) So, Friday is the BIG day. I'm excited!

According to my pregnancy website, the baby should be about 6 inches long by now and 8 ounces. It is crazy how fast things move along.

I have started having trouble sleeping. I don't stay comfortable for too long. Glenn reminds me to roll onto my side when I end up sleeping on my back, the forbidden sleeping position for pregnant women. My friend said that she slept much better with her maternity body pillow. So, guess what I am doing this weekend? You guessed it, shopping for a body pillow!
I've also been getting leg cramps to keep me from sleeping.

August update

Things are going well! I have not been plagued with morning sickness. Thank God!
I am now into my second trimester so things should be getting even better over the next 12 weeks. The one thing that I am the most excited about is that I am not tired like I was in the beginning. I still need more rest than before I was pregnant but not like those first weeks when I couldn't keep my eyes open at work.

I had my second doctors appointment two days ago. I got to hear the baby's heartbeat! That is when it really sinks in that I really have a baby growing inside me. It is comforting to know that I am not just getting fat for no reason :)
The baby is around 4.5 inches long by now. That is about the size of a naval orange. Still small but growing like crazy.

My mother just gave me a digital camera for my birthday so now I can start posting pictures and you can share in the growth of my mid-section. It will be interesting to see the changes. I am still able to wear some of my regular clothes but need to add to my maternity wardrobe which has started thanks to more birthday gifts from my family.

Glenn and I are scheduled for our second ultrasound on September 5. We will get to find out the sex of the baby at that time. I can't wait!!!!!! We have not really worked on names yet although we do have one girls name. I didn't think that it was a good use of time to choose both boy and girl names until we know what we are having. Only 4 weeks!

July 9, Our first doctor's appointment
The closer it came to the appointment, the more anxious I became. I just knew that I would get in there and the doctor would tell me the all this was some sort of sick joke and that I'm not really pregnant. That didn't happen. Instead we saw a wild child jumping around, waving arms and kicking legs! I never could have imagined someone only 2 inches long could look so human and be so active.
Glenn got his wish. We only have one baby! So many people mentioned twins to us that Glenn was getting incredibly nervous. He asked the doctor 3 times to double check that there was only one baby in there. And there's just one!
No determination of gender yet, though. That will have to wait for a couple months.
The official due date: February 2, 2009

We had fun telling Glenn's parents about the baby last weekend. We framed photos of the ultrasound, wrapped the package and presented it as a late mother's day/father's day gift. The unsuspecting Debbie opened the gift with no idea of what was about to come! Talk about shock! I thought she might faint. Her face went totally blank as she tried to get her bearings. The first thing out of her mouth, "I gotta go" She started to walk out of the room but came right back to look inside the box again to see if it was really true. After getting over the initial shock, we all celebrated together. Finally, she is getting that grandchild she started asking for 8 years ago. I guess she hasn't waited quite as long as Kyli (my niece) who says she has waited for 10 years, her ENITRE life.

Overall, I have been feeling well. Occasionally, I get a bit nauseous or have random indigestion. Other than that I am just incredibly tired. For those of you who know me well, you know that if I could eliminate one thing from my life it would be sleep. I just find it to be such a waste of time. Despite my feeling about sleep, I can't seem to get enough of it. I am about to propose a nap room at work! One day earlier this week I actually spent my lunch hour in my car sleeping. Not my normal MO. How things change.

The beginning

May 12, 2008: I swear I have never had cramps like this in my life. I can't stand up straight as I walk to my car. Once I get there I sit for a good 10 minutes until the pain subsides enough that I think I can drive myself home. An hour later the pain is gone. Little did I know that this was the beginning of something that would change my life forever.

June 12: I have been feeling really weird for the last week. Strangely bloated and periodically nauseous. I don't get sick like this, what is wrong with me? I know that I have had a higher than normal stress level lately but this is getting out of control. I feel like I have gained 5 pounds in the past few weeks. I need to get exercising and loose this weight. I want to feel good again.

June 15: I should have started my period by now. I asked Glenn to help me remember when the last time was that I had my period and we can't seem to remember. I know that I haven't had is since those terrible cramps. I need to check when that was. I think I will take a pregnancy test in the morning just to be sure.

June 16: The test came back negative. I checked my calendar and determined that the day of those awful cramps was May 12. What could be wrong with me? I searched on the web to find out what such cramps could be a symptom for. The only thing that I could find is implantation. That can mean only one thing: I have to be pregnant. And.......I still haven't started my period. We went out with friends for Glenn's birthday and I was feeling terribly nauceous. I just wanted to throw up as I would feel better. An hour or so later I was doing fine. I will try another test in the morning.

June 17, Glenn's birthday, 6:30am: I shake him gently to wake him up, 'Honey, I took another test. This one's not negative.' He rolls over and asks me if I am OK. I nod. He replies, 'Happy Birthday to me.'
We walk around in shock for the balance of the day.
We are having a baby.
WE are having a baby.
WE are having a BABY!
WE ARE HAVING A BABY! On my gosh! How did this happen?
By the end of the day, after the shock has worn off, Glenn is ready to admit that this is his best birthday yet!
And Yes, we are excited! We are going to be a family!!!!! WOW

June 19: I found a doctor! Our first appointment is July 9. And we get an ultrasound! That will make everything so much more permanent. I just keep thinking that this is going to turn out to be some sort of joke. But with each day it becomes more permanent.
